Two ancient words still used in regional place names - Guyenne & Gascony
Guyenne is an old name for an area that is similar to old Aquitaine but the north as we see it now.
The area north of the Garonne with the tiny bastide of Levignac-de-Guyenne founded by the English 700 years ago and nearby Miramont-de-Guyenne as typical examples.
Gascony is the western area between the Garonne and the Pyrenees once you come out of the Basque country.
Gascony includes the old Armagnac areas in the Gers and now part of the Midi-Pyrenees region
